Jacob Samuel Kotin of Ashburn, VA, born October 15, 2001, departed this world on December 17, 2016. Jake was known for his big heart, his smile, and his warm hugs. Within his heart, was his love for his family, his friends, his animals, and his sports. Although a multi-sport athlete, his talents excelled on the ice. He played hockey from a young age, and loved his hockey family and the Washington Capitals. Jake was a proud member of the Stone Bridge High School JV Hockey team.
On November 22, 2014, Jake became a Bar Mitzvah; and, as a Jewish man in his Congregation, he specialized in sounding the Shofar on the High Holidays. In his spare time, he was a master gamer who dominated the leader boards in all of his favorite games. Among his many other talents were playing the trombone, being silly, cooking, and creating new ways to wear camo.
Jake, predeceased by his beloved paternal grandfather John “Poppy” Kotin, is survived by his loving parents Bryan and Debbi, his sweet sister Jillian, cherished grandparents Herb and Mary Levine and Sandra Kotin, Uncle Scott Levine, cousin Emma Levine, Aunt Stacey Losman, cousins Mitchell and Daniel Losman, his dogs Ellie and Boo, and all of us who knew him and loved him.
As a last act of selflessness, Jake helped over 200 people by donating his organs and his tissues. This final act is a true testament to his incredibly loving soul.
Memorial services for Jake and Shiva for the family were held privately. Donations in Jake’s memory may be made to the Ryan Bartel Foundation (www.ryanbartelfoundation.org) or the Washington Regional Transplant Community (www.beadonor.org/get-involved).
