Gertrude B. Walker, 82, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 4, 2024. Born in Hermannstadt, Romania, to Dr. Francis and Gertrude Berthold, she immigrated to the United States as a young woman, becoming a proud naturalized citizen on November 27, 1959.
Trudy graduated with honors from Ohio State University, a testament to her remarkable intelligence and determination. Upon graduation, she was recruited by the Central Intelligence Agency and relocated to McLean, Virginia. There, she dedicated more than two decades of faithful service to the United States Government, retiring on October 31, 1996.
In 1973, Trudy married the love of her life, William H. Walker Jr., and together they welcomed their son, Christopher, the same year. Though William’s untimely passing shortly after was a profound loss, Trudy carried on with grace and strength, raising her son while building a remarkable career and life.
Trudy had a zest for life and a deep love for her family and community. She was a talented cook, delighting loved ones with traditional German dishes and baked goods. She found joy in reading murder mysteries, traveling to exotic destinations—often as part of her CIA work—and spending time with family and friends. A devout Lutheran, Trudy was a pillar of faith and compassion, volunteering regularly at her church.
She is survived by her son, Christopher Walker, and daughter-in-law, Amanda Meros; her sister, Helga Pregnolato, and brother-in-law, John Pregnolato; nieces Carla Gorman (John) and Laura Gorman (Mike); and great-nieces Lindsay, Avery, and London Gorman. She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Walker Jr.
Trudy will be remembered for her kindness, resilience, and unwavering dedication to those she loved. She touched many lives, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
