ASHBURN, Virginia - Geraldine “Gerry” Speaks Quigley, 91, of Ashburn, Virginia, passed away on September 29, 2023. She was born on September 27,1932, to the late Bertha and Raymond Speaks, in Washington County, Maryland. Gerry was one of 12 Speaks children, Howard, Raymond, Ethel, June, Jean, Calvin, Lawrence, Rusty, Janet, Betty and Michael.
Gerry is survived by her loving sons, William Quigley (Rita) of Shady Side, Maryland, and Christopher Quigley (Jenny) of Lovettsville, Virginia. She was a cherished grandmother to Theresa Rendon (Joey) of Leesburg, Virginia, Christopher Quigley (Cammie) of Ashburn, Virginia, Kaitlin Vernon (Drue) of Houston, Texas, Robert Quigley (Suzy) of Edgewater, Maryland, Megan Quigley (Will) of Edgewater, Maryland, Clayton James (Marion) of Reisterstown, Maryland and Blake Garfinkle (Shanna) of Boston, Mass. Gerry also leaves behind her precious great-grandchildren, Cooper, Taylor, Cruz, Levi, Jackson, Brooke, Logan, Clara and Asher.
Gerry now joins her beloved husband, Harold, and her son, Mark. She will also join her siblings, Howard, Raymond, Ethel, June, Lawrence, Jean, Betty and Michael.
Gerry attended Lovettsville High School and went on to have a stellar career. She began her professional journey at the Navy Annex in Arlington, Virginia. Gerry's dedication and expertise led her to become a top-selling real estate agent in McLean, Virginia, earning countless awards and recognitions from The Northern Virginia Board of Realtors (NVBR). In 1978, she founded The Geraldine Quigley Corporation, a brokerage firm that continued her legacy of excellence in the real estate industry.
Geraldine found solace in St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Ashburn, Virginia, where she worshipped. Her greatest love was celebrating with her siblings, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved traveling with friends and vacationing at her properties in New York, Florida and Bethany Beach, Delaware. She was an avid sports fan and season ticket holder of the Washington Redskins and Capitals and took pleasure in bowling with the McLean Ladies League, playing golf, bocce and skiing. Gerry had a knack for finding hidden gems while antiquing and shopping. When she had a free moment, she loved berry and apple picking and cooking with family. In recent years, Geraldine was blessed to have found a beautiful friend and caregiver, Tigest Tufa. Gerry loved visiting with Tigest’s family through video calls, going on day trips and family visits.
A visitation for Geraldine will be held Wednesday, October 11, 2023, from 3 to 5 P.M. and 7 to 9 P.M. at Murphy Funeral Home, 1102 Broad St, Falls Church, VA 22046. A Funeral Mass will be held on October 12, 2023, at 10 A.M. at St. James Catholic Church, 905 Park Ave., Falls Church, VA 22046 with a burial to follow at Fairfax Memorial Park, 9900 Braddock Rd, Fairfax, VA. 22032. The family invites friends and loved ones to join them at a reception following the burial to celebrate Gerry’s life.
