IN THE CARE OF
Murphy Funeral Homes
On June 20, 2020, Gerald “Jerry” Joseph Torregrossa, loving father of two children and four grandchildren, passed away.
Jerry was born in Washington, D.C. and spent his entire life in the Northern Virginia area. He served in the Navy during Vietnam on a guided missile destroyer, the USS Buchanan. Jerry joined the U.S. Capitol Police department in 1972 and retired from there in 2001.
Jerry had a passion for sailing. He bought his first sailboat in 1977 and enjoyed sailing up and down the Potomac River with his children as often as possible. One tradition they enjoyed was sailing to Mattawoman Creek and rafting up with other sailing friends each Memorial Day weekend. Jerry also enjoyed racing sailboats on the Potomac River, the Chesapeake Bay and to the Caribbean. Other things he enjoyed were playing the guitar and crab feasts with family and friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Sam, and his mother, Florence. He is survived by his two children, Jennifer (Nick) and Steven (Chris), his four grandchildren, Aaron, TJ, Megan and Ginny, his brother Damon, and his sister Toni as well as many other family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday July 11th, 10 AM at National Funeral Home, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042. In lieu of flowers we would like donations made to Capital Caring. Condolences may be offered at murphyfuneralhomes.com.
