On January 24, 2024, Frances Jeffrey of Arlington, Virginia passed away at age 89. She is survived by her son Willard Raught Jeffrey, III (Jeff), her daughter-in-law Mary Van Leuven Jeffrey, her three grandchildren, Allison Maryl Jeffrey, Willard Raught Jeffrey, IV, and Lauren Frances Jeffrey, her sister Jeri Dickinson, her brother-in-law Robert Dickinson, and her nephew Scott Dickinson. She was pre-deceased by her husband Willard Raught Jeffrey, Jr., her son David John Jeffrey, and her daughter Pamela Frances Jeffrey.
She was born in Roanoke, Virginia, raised in Catawba, Virginia, and lived most of her life in Arlington, Virginia. Frances was an avid reader, enjoyed playing bridge, doing original needlepoint, traveling to international destinations including the Caribbean, and diligently working in an administrative office position. Most of all she enjoyed being a fabulous mother and grandmother. She also loved curling up with a good book, high up in her family mountain cabin retreat outside of Winchester, Virginia called Whippoorwill Hill. When not pursuing her avocations or spending time with family, she would frequently attend charities and fundraisers for the Salvation Army and Purple Heart Foundation.
Frances was educated at Madison College where she received a business degree, graduating with honors. After graduation she moved to Alexandria, Virginia and taught high school classes which included typing, stenography, and other applied business skills.
Known for her kindness to all and dedication to her family, she will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Her family asks that she be remembered for the joy she brought to others in life, not the sadness of her passing. Her strength, intelligence, and grace will be forever remembered by family and friends.
Frances was cremated, with her memorial service and celebration of life held with close family and friends on February 3, 2024. Her ashes will be spread at a later date within the privacy of her family.
A poem she lived by that hung in our family home:
O heart be tender and true
While thou dost beat;
O hands be swift to do
O lips be sweet.
We will always carry her wonderful memory in our hearts.
Rest in Peace.
