She was born in Brooklyn, NY on April 6, 1925. She spent the first 30 years
in New York before moving to Virginia. She has always considered herself a
New Yorker!
Fran married William B. Campbell in 1946 and had four children. She along
with other parents of developmentally disabled children fought for public
school education for their children. This led to a career in special religious
education for the developmentally disabled. She served as Arlington
Diocesan Director of the special religious education program (SPRED) from
1970 until retirement in 1994. Fran continued to work as the lead catechist in
St. Luke’s program until 2011.
Mrs. Campbell is survived by four children: Patricia Campbell of Churchville,
Md., Barbara Hersh of Columbus, NJ., Kevin Campbell of McLean, VA.,
and Larry Campbell of McLean, VA., four grandchildren: Amy Whyte 0f
Columbus, NJ., Carrie Myer of Mt. Laurel, NJ., Lauren Cassidy of Reston,
Va., and David Hersh of Philadelphia, PA., ten great-grandchildren: Katelyn,
Zachary and Olivia Whyte, Julianne, Nathan, Noah and Lily Myer, Clare,
Megan and Patrick Cassidy.
A gathering of friends and family will be held Monday, November 27 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, Falls Church, VA. Family requests that donations be made to The Endeleo Project in lieu of flowers.
A funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 28 at St. Luke Catholic Church, McLean, VA. Interment to follow at National Memorial Cemetery, Falls Church, VA. Online condolences may be made at: www.murphyfuneralhomes. com
