Emily Vazquez was born in Norfolk, Virginia, and spent childhood summers in East Texas with her maternal extended family. As an adult, her favorite location was Florida, where her family vacationed yearly and lived for four years.
Emily was kind-hearted, yet practical, and quick to aid others however help was needed. This was apparent in her unfailing support of family and friends and in her choice of vocations. A registered nurse, Emily specialized in behavioral medicine in a clinical setting. For a decade she served as a Clinical Research Coordinator while continuing to provide direct patient care. She also spent several years as an elementary school P.E. teacher, sharing her love of health and fitness with many children. Emily had an infectious laugh, curly red hair, and beautiful blue eyes. She was an avid reader, a daily walker, and an animal lover from early childhood. In her home she took great care to support her family with love, and prioritized others' comfort above her own. As a mother, she made many happy memories with her children and no matter what, loved and supported them.
Emily is survived by her husband of nearly 33 years Jose “Joe” Vazquez, and three children, Emilio, Julian, and Lyla. She is also survived by her mother Jane Childress Harvey, has one brother, Alan (April) Harvey, and nine nieces and nephews. Emily’s father, James Mark Harvey predeceased her.
A visitation for Emily will be held Friday, July 21, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Murphy Funeral Homes, 1102 West Broad Street, Falls Church, VA 22046. A funeral mass will celebrated Saturday, July 22, 2023, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at St James Catholic Church, 905 Park Ave, Falls Church, VA 22046.
