Born in Arlington, VA, Dottie was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. Nothing made her happier than spending time with her family, cooking and watching the Washington Redskins. She lived in Virginia, Florida and North Carolina during her lifetime but always considered Virginia her home. She worked for 20 years in banking predominantly at the Sailors and Merchants Bank in Vienna, VA. Recently, she worked at GSO Printing in Greensboro, NC.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Michael Ealley, his wife Mary and grandchildren, Bridget, Jay and Meghan of Greensboro; her son, Douglas Ealley, his wife Dawn Larsen of Seattle, WA , and grandchildren, Joni Singh, Erica Sondergaard, Rebecca Dunn, Alexander Ealley, Julieanna Scott, Ashleigh Ealley and four great grandchildren all of whom live in the Washington DC area. Dottie is survived by sisters, Rita Hunter and her husband, Dave of McLean, VA; Alice Lester of Vienna, VA; and her brother, William "Hap" Atkinson and his wife Janice of Stanardsville, VA; as well as a host of nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Dorothy Atkinson, her former husband, Fred Ealley, her brothers Toby Atkinson and James Atkinson, and her sister, Barbara Doremus.
It truly takes a village to fight cancer and the family would like to extend a special thank you to the Moses Cone Care system but in particular Dr. Mohamed Mohamed, Dr. Gary Cram, Dr. Roy Moreira and Dr. James Kinard; the caring staff at Blumenthal's Jewish Nursing Home, but most especially Elizabeth, Brandye, Abraham, John, Tracie, Naomi, LaKisha and Diane; the kind people with Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro (Debbie, Debra, Kristina, Tomasita and Donna). And finally, our thanks go to Nikkee and Jamie who went above and beyond in caring for Dottie in her last months.
A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, January 28, with internment at National Memorial Garden cemetery in Falls Church, VA.
