Diana Elizabeth Haynes, age 52, of Woodbridge, Virginia passed away on Monday August 20, 2018. Diana was born on December 13, 1965 in Yakima, Washington to Wes and Teresa Ferguson. She grew up in Harrah, WA where she was active in the Future Farmers of America, 4H, cheerleading and track. She was the 1983 valedictorian of White Swan High School, graduating with a 4.0 GPA. After graduating high school, she attended Washington State University where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi. She earned her chemistry degree from Central Washington University, graduating with summa cum laude honors. Upon graduation she worked for the Washington State Department of Agriculture for several years and then the United States Department of Agriculture, where she worked for the past 20 years as a Chemist and then Director of the Pesticide Data Program.
Diana adored her three children and she loved her family. She was a gourmet cook, loved to try new recipes and collect a wide variety of cookbooks. Her family loved her Christmas morning breakfast casserole, homemade spätzle, and fresh baked bread. Aside from cooking she loved to unwind with a good murder mystery novel. Diana also loved going to the beach, where she enjoyed combing the beach for seashells, jumping waves and relaxing with her family. She enjoyed traveling and took business trips to Berlin, Stockholm, Corfu, Geneva and numerous cities throughout the United States. She was a gentle, kind person who brought joy to everyone around her. She was a scout leader and soccer team manager for her youngest son. She was fun to be around, was dearly loved and will be sorely missed.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 26, 2018 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the National Funeral Home located at 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042. The burial service will follow the memorial at the National Memorial Park Cemetery. A reception to celebrate her life will follow the burial service.
