Charlotte, retired Secretary of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Falls Church, Va. died on January 18, 2018 of congestive heart failure at Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg, Va. She resided at Heartsfield Assisted Living Center for last 8 years, previously she resided in Falls Church Va. for 63 years.
Born Juue 2, 1922, in Edneyville, North Carolina, daughter of Lyman E. and Maggie J. Staton. She had two brothers, Scott and Clay, and two sisters, Dorothy and Eva. She graduated Flat Rock High School in 1939, and received a Secretarial Certificate from Cecil’s Business College in Asheville N.C. in 1941.
In 1941 she moved to Washington DC and was employed by the Navy Purchasing Office as a Purchasing Agent and worked there through 1954. When Charlotte moved to Washington DC in 1941 she met Charles Brockman and they were married on June 14, 1944. In 1947 Charlotte and Charles moved to Tyler Avenue in Falls Church where they resided together until Charles died in 2005. Charlotte continued to live there until she moved into Heartfields Assited Living in Fredericksburg in 2009.
Charlotte was one of the original members of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church when the church was organized in 1949. She was actively involved in the church and later served as Assistant to Secretary and retired as the Church Secretary.
Charlotte is survived by her son John Brockman and his wife Deborah, Fredericksburg, VA., granddaughters Laura Harte (Thomas), Stuttgart Germany, and Dr. Lindsy Brockman of Spotsylvania, Va., and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am, Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 3098 Woodlawn Avenue, Falls Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church, from 10-11am. Interment will take place at National Memorial Park.
