Obituary of Carol Page Morgan
Carol P. Morgan, (nee Smith), age 91, of Red Bank, NJ, formerly of Great Falls, VA, died on March 23, 2018. Born on July 15, 1926 in Boston, MA to Anna (Page) and Millard Smith, she graduated from Radcliffe College in 1947 with a degree in International Relations and earned an MBA from Harvard University in 1948. Carol studied operatic singing and then sang big band tunes with the USO when she moved to Washington, DC to start her career. Carol started her career in the late 1940’s with the Naval Air Systems Command, which became the Naval Sea Systems Command. She started as a computer programmer using binary code in Assembly language and then Fortran using punch cards. She worked for the Naval Department for over 35 years and rose through the ranks to achieve the highest security clearance of any woman in the Department. She capped off her service as a director in charge of managing 125 people and outfitting Navy ships with computers. Following her 35 years in the Navy, she served as a government consultant, working for Parallax Inc. as an Information Technology Director. She finished her career as an independent consultant and the Principal of Morgan Twardzick and Associates. Carol believed strongly in education, was a voracious reader, an avid gardener, and a certified genealogist. Her walls were lined with books, she was an active member and judge for the National Capital Dahlia Society, and she served as a member of the genealogical records committees for some of her various organizations. She was a member of the Kennedy Center, the National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century, the National Societies of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Daughters of the American Colonials. Carol was predeceased by her second husband, Bob “E” Morgan, of 40 years and first husband, Stanton M. Strawson, of 17 years. She was also predeceased by her children, Lucia Strawson and Stanton (Bo) Strawson. Carol is survived by her three daughters and their husbands, Carol Strawson (Stephen Loughin), Melinda O’Mealia (James O’Mealia), and Melanie Farquharson Brose (Robert Brose). Carol is survived by seven grandchildren, Nate, James II, Ben, Katherine, Christine, Patrick, and Connor.
