Arthur S. Hondros

He was born in Fydakia, Greece on April 10, 1930, son of the late Serapheim and Maria Hondros. He is survived by his spouse, Thelma Hondros, and his two sons, Sam and his wife Sylvia and daughter Star, and Steve Hondros. He was predeceased by his sisters Chrysanthi Zorballas and Maria Kanaropoulo,both of Athens Greece.

Arthur immigrated to the United States after World War II, arriving in Winston-Salen, NC in 1950. He met his future wife in Harrisonburg, VA, married shortly thereafter and had two children, Sam and Steve Hondros. Arthur finally settled in Arlington, VA in 1968 and remained living in his home until his death. He worked in the restaurant industry in the Washington DC area, most notably at Duke Zeiberts and Alpine before opening his own restaurant, Arthur's in Vienna, VA in 1976. He retired from business in 1992 which enabled him to travel back to his village Fydakia where he met many friends and family that he was separated from during the war. He would hike the mountain goat trails that he had done as a young boy enjoying the beauty of the mountains.

Arthur was an avid gardener and enjoyed the time spent in his yard growing and harvesting his vegetables. He believed in sharing the abundant vegetables with many friends and family. In late summer he would take various varieties of figs grown from his trees to church at Saint Katherines Greek Orthodox Church to share with the congregation. He looked forward to his Sundays at church and deeply missed the participation in the liturgy and fellowship that followed during his illness.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Monday, June 15, at St. Katherine's Greek Orthodox Church, 3149 Glen Carlyn Road, Falls Church, VA 22041, with burial at National Memorial Park.

Visitation will be held between the hours of 3-6 PM on Sunday, June 14, at National Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042.
