Anita Whims Malone

On November 27th in Arlington Virginia. Born at St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to Edmund and Helen Whims. She moved to Washington, DC in 1934 where she graduated from St. Paul’s Academy. She attended Simmons College and Beaver College. She met her husband, David Malone, while working for the CIA. A long term resident of Northern Virginia where she and her husband raised their four children. The family was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany from 1966 to 1968. After her children graduated from college, she returned to school full time and received her BA from George Washington University in 1988. Anita held numerous positions as an administrative assistant including working for Audrey Moore on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, The DC Medical Society, and as Assistant to the Dean of Education and Human Development at George Washington University. She was a tireless volunteer serving at the Kennedy Center, The Smithsonian Museum of American History, and the Annandale Democratic Committee, among many other organizations. She was an active 30 year member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Arlington Virginia where she was dedicated to the ministry of Social Justice. She was a consecrated member of the Daughters of St. Francis DeSales. She is predeceased by her husband David M. Malone.

She is survived by her loving children Michael, Brian, Timothy and Kathleen, daughters-in-law Linda Lee, Leslie and MaryPaula, and son-in-law Harold. Also surviving are her nine beloved grandchildren, Hal, Ross, Ian, Matthew, Michael James, Elizabeth Joy, Kathleen, Courtney, and Joseph.

Friends may call at the Murphy Funeral Home Falls Church, 1102 W. Broad St. (Rt. 7) where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday Dec. 18th. A Celebration of the Resurrection will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 19th at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 2700 19th St S, Arlington, VA 22204.
