Pat - it has been along time since we last spoke. I was very sorry to hear about Amatai’s death. He was an incredible man. I am retired now, and Cathy and I are living on the Eastern shore on Kent island. It seems like it was centuries ago when we were together at Suburban Hospital. I still remember the advice you gave to me about raising kids. You said I should tell them they could be anything they wanted to be, they just couldn’t be everything they wanted to be. I think you were also the one who told me that you could only say “no“ to your children three times and then you lose them. So pick your “no’s“ carefully. Thanks to you our kids turned out very well. Chris and Tim  are both lawyers, practicing healthcare law. We were all together in the same firm for many years until Tim left to become general counsel of luminous health in Annapolis. Chris lives in Vail, Colorado. Our daughter Karen is a PA in Ocean City and  is married to a PA. We have 7 grandchildren, 
 If you are ever in Annapolis, I would love to buy you a drink or dinner at the Annapolis Yacht Club and rehash old times and catch up. Take care.

I was Michael Etzioni's best friend in college.  I worked for Dr. Etzioni right out of college doing research for the Center for Policy Research in 1989 before starting law school.  Dr. Etzioni was a true pleasure to work for, and an amazing mentor to learn from.  I know it wasn't easy for him to lose Michael at such an early age, so I am comforted by the fact that they can be "together" now.  My most sincere condolences to the Etznioni family.  He will always be in my thoughts.  Sincerely...

We have lost another of the "big thinkers" of sociology.  I have fond memories of Amitai from when I was a graduate student at Columbia.   Then he became a generous colleague who included me in many events and activities after I moved to GW.   Most memorable was his family's Passover Seder at the Watergate where he offered interesting insights on the holiday.   I recall thinking that the incredible view of the Potomac from his study must have at least partly inspired some of his prolific writing.  I offer my sincere condolences to the family.
