Voeun Orn passed away peacefully at home on September 10, 2024, surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was born on February 1, 1942, in Battambang, Cambodia, to Smann Orn and Aim Khek. He was the seventh of nine children, with siblings Ghoun Orn, Gharn Orn, Chheng Orn, Chheun Sman(n), Mon Orn, and Barn Orn, all of whom have predeceased him. He is survived by two sisters, Maly (Lan) Sieng and Min Bun Hong.
A modern and devoted family man, Voeun’s greatest pride was caring for his wife and children. He worked as a farmer, finding joy in raising animals and growing plants. He married Chan Hong in 1970, and together they had three children and one adopted daughter.
Voeun endured the hardships of the brutal Cambodian civil war in 1975 and, with his young family, escaped to a refugee camp in Thailand in 1979. In 1984, they immigrated to Fall River, MA, where they built a new life. A devout Buddhist, Voeun cherished spending time with his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, and regularly attended Wat Uddom Saharatanaram.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Chan Hong, and his children: Monique Stubbs (née Orn) and her husband Matthew Stubbs, and their children (Sarika) Amy, Erica, and Andrew; Sothy Orn and her husband Glen Aspeslagh, and their children Samuel, Heidi, and Nicholas; Chen Sour and her husband Kimheng Nem, and their children Ratha and Sanna; and son Chanly Achilles Orn Smann. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
His Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2024 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River. His Funeral Service will be held Monday, September 16, 2024 at 8:15 AM in the funeral home and at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of Hope and Memory at Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Blvd., Providence. Relatives and friends invited.
