Vincent J. Passero, age 97, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the Sarah Brayton Nursing Home. He was the husband of the late Dorothy E. (Grandfield) Passero to whom he was married 44 years before her passing in 2007.
Born in Fall River a son of the late John and Josephine (Boisvert) Passero he was a longtime resident of the city.
A highly decorated United States Army veteran he served as a heavy machine gunner from 1942 – 1945 in the Invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge during World War II. A laborer for the Fall River Department of Public Works he worked for 20 years before his retirement in 1984.
An avid reader he digested three to four books a week and was a New England sports team enthusiast.
He is survived by his nephew, Leonard Grandfield and his family of Dartmouth; a dear friend, Elizabeth “Betsy” Barboza and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Lillian, Evelyn and Louis Passero.
His Funeral will be held Friday, May 11, 2018 at 8:00 AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter Street, Fall River followed by a Mass at 9:00 in Holy Trinity Church, 951 Stafford Road, Fall River. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
