So sad to hear of Tom’s passing today. I worked with him at The Allied Group, and on the Providence Postal Council.  He was such a wonderful man such a gentleman.  So sorry for your loss.

John Marshall and Karen,  I was shocked to her of Tommy's passing. He will always be remembered as a special  caring and thoughtful man . I will always cherish  the times we had together. Those card games with Senior and Flo, Uncle Johnny and Newport. The  softball games, golf and the parties. He will be missed by so many. My heart goes out to you during these times.

So sorry to read about Tom in this week’s Barrington Times.  It was a fun childhood we all had on Puritan Drive, the McAvoy family living across from the Carters.  Having worked for the school system for many years, I remember you, Karen.  Deepest sympathy to you and the family from Gwyneth & Bill

With no first memory of Tom, I will always cherish my last one just a few months ago.  It was a very relaxed time with the same nice guy I’ve always known.  He was a fine man who lived his life true to his principles, and he enjoyed it.  I feel fortunate to be his friend.

Tommy  I couldn't have asked for a better brother in law and life long neighbor. You were a second father to my kids and they are better people because of it. It truly does take a village. We are going to miss you terribly. Til we meet again Francis. ❤️ Chris

The Montaup community wishes to extend its sincerest condolences to the family during this difficult time. The sudden and unexpected passing has left many of us in disbelief. Tom was widely regarded as a gentleman and a good friend to many. It is with great sadness that we bid farewell to such a valued member of our community. We take solace in the knowledge that Tom's legacy will be forever remembered in the Montaup centennial book.

We extend our sincerest sympathies to the McAvoy family, and the many friends who loved Tom. Many of my favorite childhood memories included the Christmas Eve celebrations at the McAvoy home, and the gathering of the “Barrington Boys” and their families. I remember caroling in the neighborhood, and the prank gift exchange that was one of the highlights of the evening. Over the years, we heard great stories of you all growing up together in a simpler time. Dad was so proud to have you be my godfather, and considered you to be his best friend and the brother he never had. You were a wonderful friend to our family, and for that we will always be grateful. As my godfather, you were someone who was always held in the highest esteem. You are truly missed! I hope that you meet up with those you love who passed before you, and that God keeps you safe in his embrace. Love always, Hillary

The suddenness of your passing is devastating. Our first round of the year was set for Saturday at Montaup, a place we love. God had different plans and I pray you have been reunited with your family and friends who have proceeded you. Your many remaining earthly friends, particularly Rick, Bill, and I, are lost, trying to make sense of this. The memories you have left with all of us are strong and happy all the way from childhood to the present. we will work hard to continue the traditions and you will always be at our side. Until we meet again, the promise of our Christian beliefs, may the breeze be always at your back, the greens receptive and fast, and that elusive ace be made on the most beautiful par three you have ever played.

I will always cherish the memories of Christmas Eve with Tom, the McAvoy family and so many friends. The genuine joy that Tom brought to our lives will not be forgotten. As a child, the meaning of friendship was defined for me by the strong bond that Tom, Rick, Billy and our dad shared. May the fairways be plush and the greens run true in heaven. Sending my condolences and prayers to you all.

I was so very sad to hear about Tom's passing. I will hold the many happy memories spent at the Christmas Eve parties close to my heart as they were so wonderful. You know you are lucky when you can call someone a great friend for over 50 years  Well that was Tom and boy did we have a lot of fun    I’m not alone , just part of a large group in Barrington , Montaup CC ( Tom loved Montaup ) on Cape Cod and his friends in NJ ,( Shess )  , Florida (Z) and Nevada ( famous Rico ) .  I’d be remiss if I didn’t include his best friends Rick and Harb who along with myself we played 3-4 grueling golf matches every year for the past 20 yrs   We always had a blast    Tom was all about Family ,church  ,  friends golf and Prov College    Till I see you again    Best Bill
