Robert T. Coury

Robert T. Coury, “Bobby,” age 84, of Fall River, passed away Thursday, August 31, 2023 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Shirley M. (Paquin) Coury to whom he has been married to for the past 62 years.

Born in Fall River, a son of the late Joseph and Alice (Rashed) Coury, he has been a lifelong resident of the city.

A graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, Class of 1956, he was a Veteran of the United States Army having served during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After active duty, he continued with the National Guard.

Bobby worked as a Truck Driver for the former State Road Cement Blocks in North Dartmouth for over forty years before his retirement. He was a Teamster Union member for over forty-two years and serving as a Trustee for nine.

He was a lifetime communicant of St. Anthony of the Desert Maronite Catholic Church. He was an honorary member of the Armenian community of St. Vartanantz and St. Mesrob Churches in Rhode Island often attending with his family their ethnic musical KEFS in both Rhode Island and Cape Cod. He had a great love for the music of Lebanon and its popular vocalists and dance performers and relished in the exchange of Arabic phrases with his sister.

He was a proud Veteran of the United States Army and a member of the Fall River and Tiverton AMVETS where he enjoyed the company of fellow veterans. An avid motorcyclist, he enjoyed the daily cleaning and waxing of his unconventional automobile while searching for the ‘pot of gold’ on the many scratch tickets he would purchase for the day. A life-long Red Sox fan, Bobby most enjoyed entertaining in his home, cooking for his friends and family. He loved revisiting the songs of the ‘50s and was happiest entertaining behind (or in front of) his bar, extending invitations which were difficult to decline. But of the joys presented throughout his life, it was his children, especially his beloved wife, for whom he protected, loved and embraced a profound and unparalleled relationship.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Steven Coury and his wife Kelly, Michael Coury and his husband Michael Gutter all of Swansea; two daughters, Lisa Raposa and her husband Chris of Somerset, Charlene Agostinho and her husband Dinarte of Fall River; one sister, Gladys Assad of Fall River; six grandchildren, Chad, Collette, Alexander, Christian, Adam and Joshua, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late William Coury, grandfather of the late Ashley Coury, brother-in-law of the late Faheem Assad and best friend of the late Eddie Motta and Freddie Ornaldo.

His Funeral will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at 9:00AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM in St. Anthony of the Desert Church, 300 North Eastern Avenue, Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00PM. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
