Born in Fall River, son of the late Maxwell Fischer Turner and the late Elizabeth G. Turner, (formerly Taylor). He was a graduate of Phillips Andover Academy, Yale University and Harvard University where he received his advanced degree in the Classics. He attended Boston University where he was educated in pre-med, and Tufts University where he received his medical degree.
A veteran of the US Navy he served in Vietnam where he attained the rank Lieutenant Junior Grade. Dr. Turner was an avid outdoorsman. He was a member of the Atlantic Tuna Club and the Mt. Tom Club.
The greatest joy in Dr. Turner’s life was, as he described it “the art of practicing medicine.” He treated generations of families for over 40 years with great love and dedication. Dr. Turner’s keen intellect and his life- long passion for learning were infused with a sharp wit and a deep understanding of human nature. His presence in the lives of the people he touched will live on forever

He leaves his son, Richard B. Turner Jr. of Bristol, RI, two daughters, Sally V. Turner of Barrington, RI, Penelope Turner Leuchtag of Houston, Texas, one brother Maxwell Fischer Turner of Westport, MA, two grandchildren Ilana and Joshua Leuchtag, and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral service on Saturday, September 19, 2015. Calling hours will take place from 10AM until 1PM with a service to immediately follow. This will take place at Waring-Sullivan Funeral Home, 178 Winter St. Fall River, MA.
