Born in Fall River, a son of the late Emile and Stella (Gagnon) Petit, he was a lifelong resident of the city and a graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School. After entering the Air Force, he graduated from the Air Force Pilot Training Class 61-Delta. He served thru the Vietnam Era, rising to the rank of Captain piloting Air Search & Rescue missions and was a member of the Strategic Air Command bomb squadron. He received numerous commendations & awards for his service.
Later as a security consultant, he founded Electro Systems in Fall River in 1972, later merging with American Alarm and Communications in 1994, where he worked until recently. He was a member and past president of the Fall River Lions Club, The Masons, Richelieu Club, and an actor and past president of the Fall River Little Theater.
Surviving in addition to his wife are four sons; Brian K. Petit and his wife Christine of No. Scituate, RI., Darryl S. Petit and his wife Donna of Wilmington, DE., Sean C. Petit and his wife Pamela of Fall River, and Kris J. Petit and his wife Mary-Beth of Raynham, seven grandchildren; Tiffany, Jessica, Courtney, Sarah, Trinya, Michael and Ian, five great grandchildren; Jordan, Ayvah, Ayden, Mason and Tyler, one brother; Richard Petit and his wife Eileen, two sisters; Paulette Sweeney and her husband Daniel and Patricia Kuklewicz all of Fall River, his mother in-law; Evelyn Wyman and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 8AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT CHERRY PLACE, 178 Winter Street followed by a funeral mass at 9AM in Holy Name Church. 709 Hanover Street, Fall River. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Visiting hours Wednesday 5-8PM.
