Patrick M. Rogers

Patrick Michael Rogers, 60 of Assonet died on March 10, 2019 after fighting a valiant, five-month battle with cancer. Patrick was the longtime partner of Elizabeth Sullivan of Assonet, with whom he shared nearly 18 years of life, love, and laughter. He was the son of the late Milton P. Rogers Sr. and Nellie (Emelia Jarabek) Rogers. Patrick is survived by his three daughters, he lovingly referred to as his princesses; Chelsea Morgan Mauricio (and her husband, Mitchell) of Somerset, MacKenzie Taylor Rogers of Wakefield, RI, and Sydney Madison Rogers of Fall River. In addition to his daughters, Pat leaves his beloved grandson, Jameson Patrick Connelly, his devoted brother, Milton (Mitch) P. Rogers, Jr. (and his partner, Donna Williams) of Fall River, his nephew Milton (Mitch) P. Rogers, III (and his wife Joann) of Michigan, who aptly referred to his uncle as “The Coolest Guy in the World”, and several wonderful cousins.

Pat retired as a lieutenant on the Fall River Police Department, having served the city for over 20 years. While working on the department, he earned his degree from New England School of Law and started his business, Commonwealth Police Service, Inc. Attorney Rogers authored and instructed from countless textbooks on Massachusetts law, which have been recognized and utilized by the Massachusetts Civil Service Division as secondary sources from which police across the state prepare for promotional exams. At times, Pat’s seminars were filled beyond room capacity, as he had an unmatched ability to dissect complicated facets of Massachusetts criminal procedure and criminal law, as well as to break down police managerial textbooks for his students. Pat’s passion for teaching and his commitment to maintaining a very high level of professionalism in law enforcement helped to aid thousands of Massachusetts police officers in becoming successful in the police promotional process, as well as in their day-to-day service to their communities. Along with his time on the job and his business, one of his greatest professional joys was teaching recruits at the Plymouth Police Academy, as well as at many other academies across the state over the years. From recruits to chiefs of police, all who’ve known Pat will surely think of his many catch-phrases (“Because those are the rules”, “All day long”, “Stand by . . . “, “That’s good for 50 large!”, “Outstanding!”, “All day, all night”, “To make a long story even longer . . . “ and, of course, “That’s a ground ball, man!”) as they remember him and his impact on their careers.

The accolades and the support from the far-stretching thin blue line (especially the Fall River PD) have been greatly appreciated throughout his illness. Additionally, a tremendous thanks goes out to the entire staff of Atwood 5 at Charlton Memorial Hospital who’ve provided outstanding care and comfort.

Pat’s funeral will be held on Friday, March 15, 2019 at 8:30am from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Holy Name Church, 709 Hanover St., Fall River. Family and friends are also welcome to attend his visiting hours on Thursday, March 14 from 3 to 8pm in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place. Burial will be private.
