Born in Fall River, a son of Ronald and JoAnn (Gosselin) Silvia of Fall River, he was a 1997 graduate of Carrabec High School in Anson, Maine.
A proud Veteran of the United States Army, Matthew served two consecutive tours of duty in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He remained a strong advocate for veterans, speaking out on behalf of others and sharing his own stories to raise awareness for PTSD and other combat-related ailments. A man of service, Matthew joined the Fall River Police Department in 2006. He served his city for eleven years, most recently as a Detective.
Matthew had many hobbies and passions, whether working tirelessly in and on his “man cave,” fishing, photography, or enjoying cigars and fine cheeses with his wife and friends. In addition to Christine and his parents, Matthew is survived by his cherished baby girl, Elise Jacqueline Silvia, and his step-son Simon Nawrocki, both of Fall River, and his daughter Emily Silvia of Orleans. Matthew is also survived by one brother, Christopher Silvia, of Fall River. He will forever be in the hearts and memories of the many people who served beside, laughed with, and loved Matthew.
His funeral will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017, at 9:00AM in Blessed Trinity Parish, 1340 Plymouth Avenue, Fall River.
