Sister Marie Duerr (Sr. Robert Paul), SUSC died at Catholic Memorial Home, Fall River at the age of 85 on May 29, 2015 after a brief illness. She was born in Baltimore on June 23, 1929 the daughter of the late Anthony and Theresa (Weigmann) Duerr. In addition to her Holy Union Sisters, her sister Sr. Mary Catherine Duerr SUSC, several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews survive her. Her brothers Reverend Robert Duerr, Charles Duerr, Leroy Duerr, and sisters Rita Duerr Micriotti, and Elizabeth Loats predeceased her.
Sister Marie graduated from the Institute of Notre Dame, Baltimore. She entered the Holy Union Sisters in Fall River, MA on August 15, 1947 and pronounced her final vows August 22, 1955.
She received a B.S. in Elementary Education from Fordham University and did additional study at Hunter College, New York. She received a Certificate in Sacred Sciences from Providence College.
Sister Marie served as a teacher and administrator for forty-five years in schools in Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. After her retirement in 1994 she continued to volunteer as an instructional assistant in schools in Baltimore. Her last ministry was as a volunteer in the senior program at St. Leo Parish, Baltimore. Sr. Marie celebrated sixty-five years as a Holy Union Sister in 2012. She joined the Holy Union Community at The Landmark in Fall River in August 2012 and when she needed additional care moved to Catholic Memorial Home in June, 2014.
All services will be held at Catholic Memorial Home, 2446 Highland Ave., Fall River. The wake is Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. followed by a vigil service at 9:45 a.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Margaret Mary Chapel. Burial at St. Patrick Cemetery, Fall River will follow. Funeral arrangements are by Waring-Sullivan Funeral Home, Fall River.
