Maria da Luz (Arruda) Pavao, “Terezinha,” age 96, of Fall River, gained her angel wings, Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Jose Couto Pavao.
Born in Santa Barbara, Sao Miguel, Acores, Portugal, a daughter of the late Antonio and Maria DoCarmo (Barbosa) Arruda, she immigrated to the United States in 1958 having settled in Fall River.
She worked as a Presser at A & A Manufacturing in Fall River for many years before her retirement in 1988. After retirement, she and her husband enjoyed traveling all over the world and cruising.
A devout catholic and avid churchgoer, she was a longtime communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church. When not able to attend Mass she was sure to watch it at home.
She enjoyed reading and watching Portuguese soap operas. Her favorite times spent were being in the presence of family.
She is survived by three children, Joseph A. Pavao and his wife Gerrie, Gabriella “Gabby” Martin and her husband Robert and Marcia Paiva and her husband John all of Fall River; five grandchildren, Susan Fernandes and her husband Pedro of New Bedford, Scott Pavao and his companion Maria Moniz of Swansea, Stephanie Desmarais and her husband Raymond, Stacy Newhook and her husband Arthur all of Dighton, Mathew Paiva and his wife Alicia of Fall River, ten great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the grandmother of the late Donna Miranda and was predeceased by many siblings.
Her Funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at 9:00AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Bedford St., Fall River. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00PM. Contributions in her honor may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
