Maria do Rosario (Oliveira) Cabral, of Tiverton, passed away Sunday, June 4, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Francisco J. “Frank” Cabral with whom she recently celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary with.
Born in Candelaria, Sao Miguel, Acores, a daughter of the late Luis Pavao and Gilda (Ferreira) Oliveira, she and her family immigrated to the United States in 1961.
She worked in the jewelry industry in Attleboro and later in garment industry in Fall River. A graduate of the Fall River Beauty Academy, she became a leading cosmetologist, stylist and proprietor for many years of Unlimited Expressions in Fall River.
An active member of the community, she hosted many “Cut-a-Thons” to raise funds to benefit the St. Anne’s Hospital Breast Care Center. She was the lead singer and founding member of the Acorean folklore group “Os Lusitanos.” Awarded the John S. Brayton Jr. Community Service award by the Fall River Chamber of Commerce in 1997, she was also an Incorporator of BankFive having been named their “Hometown Hero.”
Known for her incredible energy, optimism, generosity, compassion and advice, she was a caring friend to many cancer survivors being a breast cancer survivor herself. She had an awesome smile and lived life to the fullest. Her immediate family was everything to her. Her grandchildren were the love of her life, taking them on many trips.
In addition to her husband, she was the mother of Lisa Maria McGregor and Francisco de Oliveira Cabral; sister of Manuel (Margarida) Oliveira, Luis (Leslie) Oliveira, Jose (Vilma) Oliveira, Maria DeCoste, Eva Oliveira, Vangy (David) Auclair, and Albert (Cheryl) Oliveira; Grandmother “Vozinha” of Hunter Cabral Oliveira and Skye Cabral Oliveira; and sister-in-law of Raul Benevides. She was the sister-in-law of the late Luisa Benevides.
Her Funeral will be held Thursday, June 8, 2017 at 8:30 AM from Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in Holy Ghost Church, 316 Judson St., Tiverton, RI. Visiting hours Wednesday from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited. Flowers welcome or contributions in her honor may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
