Kathleen (Beaulieu) Castro, “Kathy,” age 79, of Fall River, passed away Friday, February 9, 2024 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Thomas J. Beaulieu Sr. and Kathleen Beaulieu, she was a lifelong dedicated resident of the city.
A graduate of the former Sacred Heart Academy, Class of 1962, she received a full scholarship to attend Boston College. She received her Associate's degree from Bryant University and her Bachelor of Arts and Master's degree in English Literature from UMass Dartmouth.
Always an educator, she retired from the New Bedford School Department. She was the owner and publisher of the O’Journal in Fall River for many years.
A community activist, she was socially and politically involved in the city, enjoyed volunteering and received many awards. She was a member of the Fall River and New Bedford Rotary Club and a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow award. She was also the recipient of the Woman of The Year Award presented by the Fall River Business and Professional Women’s Club. She was a member of the Friends of the Public Library, the Fall River Historical Society and the Fall River Little Theatre where she produced and directed many plays. She also hosted a talk show on WSAR radio in Fall River. She was a member of both the Wamsutta Club and the Quequechan Club. Kathy enjoyed traveling all over the world and was recently appointed by Governor Maura Healey to the Massachusetts Cultural Counsel.
She is survived by one brother, Thomas J. Beaulieu Jr. and his wife Patricia of Somerset; two nephews, Thomas Beaulieu and his wife Mikayla of Cumberland, RI, Patrick Beaulieu and his wife Courtney of Attleboro; three great-nieces, Taylor, Brittney and Skylar Beaulieu and one great-great nephew, Julian Tatum Jones.
Her Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024 from 9:00 to 11:00AM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River, followed by her Funeral Service at 11:00AM in the Funeral Home. Relatives and friends are invited. Contributions in her honor may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168. Burial private.
