Katherine "Kammy" M. Humphrey, 63, of Newport, passed away on December 12, 2023, at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston. She was the daughter of Wendy Hill Merriman and the late Duncan Chapin Merriman.
Born in Providence, Kammy spent her childhood years riding horses in Rehoboth, MA before joining the seaside communities of Tiverton & Little Compton, Rhode Island. Shortly after earning a bachelor's degree from Northeastern University, Kammy's life was quickly defined by her passion for cooking. Kammy married the love of her life, William “Jay” Humphrey, in 1986, and shared their love of travel, family, and skiing.
Active in various circles, Kammy made a career as a private chef, volunteered in the community around her, and was a vibrant member of her neighborhood book club.
Kammy is survived by her mother, Wendy Merriman; daughter, Katherine "Katie" A. Humphrey; son, William "Will" W. Humphrey, III, and his wife Shae; brother, Ted Merriman; sister, Jill Brash, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Duncan Merriman, brother, Daniel Merriman, and husband, Jay Humphrey.
A celebration of Kammy's life will be held at the United Congregational Church of Little Compton on Saturday, January 6th at 11:00am.
