Julie A. (Donahue) Rezendes, age 89, of Assonet, passed away peacefully surrounded with love at home on Saturday, November 11, 2023. She was the beloved wife of the late Marianno “Junior” Rezendes. They were married for 56 years until his passing in 2015.
Born in Dighton, Julie was the daughter of the late John W. Donahue and Julia (Woodward) Gallagher. She was raised in Somerset, MA until the age of 10 when she became a resident of St. Vincent’s Home in Fall River, MA for 4 years. At age 14 she moved to Assonet and later graduated from Dighton High School as class secretary in 1952. She went on to become a registered nurse at the Union Hospital School of Nursing, trained at Boston City Hospital, and was the first on-site nurse at Horseneck Beach in 1956. Julie’s nursing career included working at Union Hospital in Fall River, Morton Hospital in Taunton, and as the school nurse at George R. Austin Middle School in Lakeville. After nursing Julie became a real estate broker and was the founder/owner of Rezendes Real Estate, which she opened in 1986 and sold in 1996. She then went on to work for Anchor Realty Group in Fall River until her retirement.
A lover and patron of the arts, Julie was a lifetime/honorary member of the Little Theatre of Fall River. She was cast as a principal actor in ‘The Boy Friend’ in 1959 which was the first musical comedy Little Theatre produced. She enjoyed the organization tremendously and continued her participation and support for decades.
Julie loved a party and brought life to every room she entered. She loved to travel to tropical climates; Cancun and Aruba were her favorites.
Julie is survived by her son Daniel N. Rezendes and his partner Steven D. Chandler of Assonet; two sisters, Peggy Cardello of Assonet and Barbara Kaminsky and her husband Bruce of Chatham; two brothers, Paul Gallagher and his wife Carol of Litchfield, ME, and Joseph Gallagher and his wife Anne of Attleboro, MA; four grandchildren, Kevin Rezendes and his wife Samantha, Marianna Rezendes, and Michael Charbonneau all of Assonet, and Marguerite Correia and her husband Jacob of Jackman, ME; four great-great grandchildren, Magdalynne Correia, and Griffin, June, and Theresa Rezendes; two daughters-in-law, Maggie Rezendes and Kathy Grace of Assonet; and many nieces and nephews. Julie was the mother of the late John R. “Jake” Rezendes and sister of the late Major John W. Donahue and Constance Berdos.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, December 11, 2023 at 10:00AM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will be private. Visitation on Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Julie’s honor may be made to Little Theatre of Fall River, P.O. Box 1282, Fall River, MA, 02722.
