Josephine Karam, known as Teta, age 90, of Fall River, passed away Friday, February 10, 2023 in Somerset Ridge Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Georges Karam, to whom she shared 63 years of marriage.
Born in Lebanon, she was the daughter of the late Chafic and Wadiha Nehme. Though she spent the last 37 years of her life in Fall River, she and her late husband visited their native country of Lebanon and their family for many summers. Her home always remained in her heart. Just as she was a strong and loving matriarch to her family here, she remained one in her hometown as well. She was loved by everyone she knew.
A natural giver, Josephine enjoyed being a homemaker, caring for her children as they grew. She continued to share the love she had with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought so much joy to her life. She always enjoyed hosting large family gatherings and welcoming people to her home. You could not leave her house without being fed and feeling loved, and that is what made her most happy in life. Even towards the end of her life, her warmth, generosity, and sense of humor remained.
She is survived by her two daughters, Fadia Youssef and her husband Aslan of Somerset, and Najwa Akouri and her husband Tony of Fall River; four sons, Albert Karam and his wife Paula of Fall River, Simon Karam and his wife Nancy of Fall River, Karam Karam and his wife Jocelyne of Westport, and Elie Karam and his wife Julia of Fall River; fifteen grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. She and her family are grateful to all the nurses and caretakers who helped her throughout her final years.
Her Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at 9:00AM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River with a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM in St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 289 N. Main St. Fall River. Burial to follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 5:00PM-8:00PM.
