Joseph M. Rockett III, (Michael) of Fall River, Massachusetts, was born on April 16,1949, and died on December 15, 2022, at the age of 73. He was the son of the late Dr. Joseph M. Rockett Jr., and Marion (Hague) Rockett. He graduated from Bishop Stang High School and attended BU and the former SMU in Dartmouth. He was a Boston Cabbie, managed restaurants in Providence and Texas, then returned to Fall River and became an installer for Phenix Aluminum where he worked alongside family and friends.
Michael married, Lucille (Phenix) Plante, and though they later divorced she would remain his best friend until his last day. He was a wonderful stepdad to her 3 children, Brigitte (Gregory) David, Robert (Amy Breton) Plante, and Nicholas Plante, and always considered them his own. Grampy Mike loved his grandchildren, Emma Plante, Samara, Marcus, and Isaiah David and looked forward to spending time with them. The oldest in the family, Michael leaves his sisters Ann Rockett-Sperling, Kathy Rockett, Polly Phenix (Maurice), Rosemary Hopkins (Thomas) and his brothers Bill, Stephen (Kelly), Christopher (Anne), and David Rockett. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister Joan Rockett and nephew Brendan Rockett.
An avid golfer, Michael was a member of Touissett Country Club and traveled yearly to Myrtle Beach with them. He was on the E.P. Townies bowling team and played Sunday morning cards at the country club. He was also a member of the Fall River Lodge of Elks. Michael was happiest with a book in hand and his dog by his side. Three years ago, he lost his leg but that did not deter him from getting strong enough to get back on the links and lanes.
Michael lived life on his own terms and died surrounded by love and family. He became a model of determination and courage, and we will forever feel his loss.
Visiting Hours will be held Monday, December 26, 2022 from the hours of 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. with a service of remembrance to follow in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter Street, Fall River, MA. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery will be private.
