Born in Fall River, a son of the late Francis L. and Helen (Roberts) Collins, he was a lifelong resident of the city.
A graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, he also attended Indiana Institute of Technology. Jim was a third generation owner and operator of Collins Construction Company, Inc., in Fall River.
A communicant of Holy Name Church, he was a member of the Fall River Rotary Club and was a Past President. He was the President of the Fall River Rotary Charitable Foundation Trust and a recipient of two Paul Harris Fellow Awards. He was a member of the B.C.C. Foundation, served on the Board of SER Jobs for Progress, and was a Corporator at BankFIVE. He was also a past member of the United Way, the Bristol County Chamber of Commerce, the Salvation Army, the Greater Fall River Y.M.C.A, and People Incorporated.
Jim was known for always wearing a bow tie and he was a sharp dresser. He had a great love for the beach and enjoyed traveling. His best times were spent with his family and friends.
He is survived by three beloved daughters, Erica Collins and Rebecca Collins, both of Fall River, and Jane Collins-Pacheco and her husband Kevin of Westport; Jo Ann’s children Kayleigh and Bentley Holt of Fall River; two brothers, Attorney Francis L. Collins III and his wife Helen, and Thomas J. Collins and his wife Susan, all of Fall River; one sister, Jane Shadid and her husband Theodore of Fort Scott, Kansas; ten grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.
His Funeral will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at 8:00AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00AM in Holy Name Church, 709 Hanover St., Fall River. Visiting hours Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00PM. In lieu of flowers contributions in his honor may be made to the charity of your choice. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
