Born in Fall River, the son of the late Moses and Harriet (Levinstein) Zangwill, he was a lifelong resident of the city and a 1965 graduate of BMC Durfee High School.
Irving was a graduate of Southeastern Massachusetts University, class of 1969, earned his Master’s Degree from Bridgewater State College, and his CAGS from Boston University. He was an Elementary School Teacher in the Fall River Public School system for many years until his retirement in 2004.
Mr. Zangwill, was a member of the Durfee Alumni Association, a member and trustee of the Fall River Public Library, Southeastern Massachusetts Library System Board, and Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sisters in-law, Kathleen A. Pflock and Marilyn Coughlin and a brother in-law William Desmond and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Susan Zangwill, brothers in-law Michael J. Coughlin, Peter M. Pflock and sister-in-law Sheila Desmond.
Private services are in the care of the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place in Fall River. Memorial contributions in his honor may be made to the Friends of the Fall River Public Library, 104 N. Main St., Fall River, MA 02720.
