Geraldine “Gerri” (Fonseca) Powers, age 80, passed away peacefully, comforted by her husband and children Wednesday, January 15, 2020 in Charlton Memorial Hospital. She was the loving wife of Edward Powers to whom she had shared 26 years of marriage.
Born in Fall River a daughter of the late Antone and Laurentina (Perry) Fonseca she was a longtime resident of Tiverton, RI.
A graduate of B.M.C. Durfee, Class of 1957, she earned a Paralegal certification from Bristol Community College. Skilled at crafting she was known as the “Button Baby Lady” in Tiverton and enjoyed participating in craft fairs. Gerri gave of herself without hesitation to so many and especially for the 15 years that she was her own mother’s caretaker. She and Ed were inseparable took great pleasure spending their winters in Bradenton, Florida as snowbirds.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Jeffrey Brodeur and his wife Cathy, Mark Brodeur and his wife Brenda and Paul Brodeur and his wife Jen; four daughters, Kristen Brodeur Ploude, Amy Carey and her husband David, Cathy Powers, and Laura Fader and her husband Scott; one sister, Theresa Leppala; twelve grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Her visitation will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2020 from 10:00AM – 12:00 PM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter Street, Fall River followed by a memorial service at 12:00 PM -1:00PM with a light luncheon to follow. Burial will be private.
