Born in Fall River, a son of the late George G. and Martha C. (Heron) Manchester, he was a resident of Fall River until moving to Westport 60 years ago.
Throughout his life he was happiest sharing his many talents with family and friends. A bricklayer by trade, he was a self taught craftsman in many other trades. There wasn’t anything he would not try and do well in. He will be remembered for his easy smile and quick wit. He will be greatly missed by his family.
He was a life member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers since 1950. He was a WWII veteran serving in the United States Navy Seabees receiving the WWII Victory Medal, American Area Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to the nurses on Atwood 5 and Southcoast VNA Hospice for their compassionate care.
Survivors include: one son George W. Manchester and his wife Kathryn of Plymouth; two daughters Debra Manchester and her husband Paul Cabral, Linda Souza and her husband Joseph all of Westport, three grandchildren Alexander Manchester, Joseph and Jennifer Souza; two great grandchildren, June and Adrian; two siblings, William and Mary Manchester and several nieces and nephews. He was the grandfather of the late Victoria Manchester.
His Funeral will be held Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 8:15 AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM in St. George’s Church, 12 Highland Ave., Westport. Visiting hours, wednesday prior to the mass from 8:15 to 10:15 AM. Contributions in his honor may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452 www.alz.org/MANH. Burial in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
