Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Albert Thornton and Annie (Bartsch) Thornton.
Elinor was a graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, Class of 1951 and went on to work for Hiltons Bakery for 25 years, worked at O Jornal Newspaper, cleaned Plumbers’ Supply buildings, was the personal assistant/caregiver to many.
In addition to baking delicious wedding and birthday cakes, Elinor enjoyed sewing, cooking and caring for many people in her family and community. She will be remembered for her loving, caring, kind and generous nature and ability to help anyone who was in need. She was truly a strong, courageous, hardworking, amazing woman, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend...
She is survived by her children, Catherine M. Buckley of Fall River, Herbert A. Buckley of Fall River, Richard E. Buckley and his wife Nancy of Tiverton, Donald J. Buckley and his wife Gloria of Fall River; 6 grandchildren, Alison, Brian, Marc, Rachele, Thomas and Laura; 3 great-grandchildren and several wonderful nieces and nephews. She was pre deceased by her son, Albert T. Buckley and siblings, Frances Hoover and Albert, Joseph and Everett Thornton.
Due to current occupancy restrictions, Elinor’s Funeral Services will be private. Her arrangements are in the care of Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, Fall River.
