Captain Edward Walsh

Captain Edward Walsh, age 76, of Fall River, passed away Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Charlton Memorial Hospital unexpectedly. He was the husband of Margaret (Sheahan) Walsh to whom he has been married for the past 52 years. Born in Fall River, a son of the late Edward and Theresa (Lord) Walsh, he was a lifelong resident of the city.

Captain Walsh was a graduate of Bishop Stang High School (Class of 1962). A Veteran of the United States Army he served his country overseas in Germany from 1963-1966. After his military service he earned an associate degree in Fire Science from Bristol Community College.

He served on the Fall River Fire Department for over 30 years retiring as Captain of Rescue 1. Captain Walsh was an active member of the Fall River chapter of the International Association of Fire Fighters and served as their secretary for many years. He was also a member of the Hazmat Team for the State of Massachusetts.

Mr. Walsh was a long-time member of the Fall River Municipal Credit Union Board of Directors. He was a lifetime member of the Holy Name Church. He also served as a Cub Scout leader and Little League coach. The golf balls did not fear him but he was an avid golfer and enjoyed the time it allowed him to spend with friends. His favorite pastime in retirement was spending time with his grandchildren and nephews and seeing all of the basketball, softball, soccer, theatre and karate he could.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Edward M. Walsh and his wife Maya Glos of Barrington, NH, Daniel S. Walsh and his wife Kelly of North Andover, MA; his sister Mary Lou Sears and her husband Thomas of Assonet; four grandchildren, Joseph Abate-Walsh, Madla Walsh, Alexander Walsh, and Connor Walsh. He was the loving uncle of Elizabeth Ann (Pereira) Strojny and her children Ryan and Andrew of Norton, MA. Also, a loving uncle of James Pereira of Fall River, MA, Robert Sears of Assonet, MA and Tracey Sears of ME.

Due to current restrictions on public gatherings, his funeral and burial will be private.
