Born January 30, 1927 in Medford, MA she was the daughter of the late Mitchell C. Lilley III and the late Josephine E. (Freeman) Lilley. She grew up in Wellesley, MA and lived in Fall River after her marriage to Henry E. Smith, Sr. in 1952.
A graduate of Skidmore College Class of 1949, she received her Bachelor’s Degree and was an active member of the Alumnae Group. She taught in Malden and Westport and the fifth grade at the Tansey School in Fall River until her retirement in 1995.
She was a member of the Lydia-Cobb Quequechan Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a member of the Charlton Auxiliary. She had been a Girl Scout Leader for many years and led a troop of 21 to Europe for three weeks in the summer of 1970. She loved her mini-schnauzers, Tink and Lib, who were her daily companions. She kept up her social life with friends and family across the country through email and Facebook. She was known to all as “Gram” and “Gram Gram” by her great grandchildren.
Ann celebrated her 90th birthday recently with all of her family. She enjoyed Baker’s Beach and spending time at Thumpertown Beach in Eastham on Cape Cod with her entire family for many years. Sanibel and Captiva Islands in Florida were also special places to her.
In recent years she discovered the pleasure of cruising, especially in the Caribbean and enjoyed the beautiful beaches of Aruba and Antigua.
She is survived by three children, Susan Elise Horvitz (Stewart) of Somerset, Holly Anne Menard of Fall River and Henry E. “Ted” Smith (Corinne) of Somerset; nine grandchildren, Andrew M. Horvitz (Eileen) of Hudson, MA, Sarah L. Horvitz (James Nash) of Rockville Centre, NY, Emily A. Breguet (Scott) of Lincoln, RI, Annelise M. Hague (Meghan) of Fall River, Mitchell E. Menard (Cassandra) of East Freetown, Alexander J. Menard (Heather) of Halifax, MA, Danielle A. Cabral (Jeffrey) of Fall River, Jeffrey H. Smith of Watertown, Allison L. Perry (Ross) of Oklahoma and six great-grandchildren.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 10:00 AM in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME AT CHERRY PLACE, 178 Winter St., Fall River. Visiting hours, Wednesday from 4:00 – 7:00PM.
