It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ricardo “Richard” Garcia, a beloved parent, dedicated public servant, advocate for education and youth development, and a cherished member of the community. Richard peacefully departed from this world, leaving behind a legacy of service and love that will forever be treasured.
Ricardo “Richard” Garcia eternal rest on Monday, July 10, 2023, in Corpus Christi at the age of 74. He was born on August 3, 1948, in Falfurrias, Texas to Rodolfo and Carlota Garcia. Richard is preceded in death by his parents Rodolfo M. Garcia and Carlota R. Garcia and brother Rene Garcia. He is survived by his dear wife, Maricella G. Garcia of Falfurrias, Texas. Richard was a loving parent. He leaves behind two children, Gabriella (Oscar) Perez of Falfurrias, Texas and Ricardo Garcia II (Alyssa) Garcia of Falfurrias, Texas who will forever cherish the memories and lessons imparted by their remarkable father. His guidance, love, and unwavering support will continue to inspire them as they navigate life's journey. He is also survived by his siblings two brothers Rodolfo (Gaylee) Garcia of Georgetown, Texas, Roy (Lisa) Garcia of Falfurrias, Texas and one sister Ana Lisa Vela of Falfurrias, Texas; three grandchildren Ryder Joaquin Perez, Robyn Maci-Rae Perez, and Ricardo Roberto “Ricky Bobby” Garcia III.
Serving as pallbearers are: Juan Escobar, Gilberto Garcia Jr., Jose Alfredo Garcia, Alejos Salas, Gary Starr and Hector Zamarripa.
Honorary pallbearers are: Ryder Joaquin Perez and Ricardo Roberto “Ricky Bobby” Garcia III.
Throughout his life, he engaged in various endeavors that showcased his strong work ethic and commitment to both his family and community. In his earlier years, he worked alongside his father and brothers, cultivating crops and sowing the seeds of hard work and determination. Watermelons, in particular were a main crop that Richard and his family harvested, not only with their brothers and cousins but alongside young men from the community. The shared experiences in the fields created lasting bonds and fostered a sense of unity among all involved.
In pursuit of his passions and entrepreneurial spirit, Richard went on to establish “Rudy’s Feed Store” in Falfurrias, a testament to his ambition and dedication to supporting the agricultural needs of his community. Through his business, he provided essential resources and guidance to local farmers and ranches, leaving a lasting impact on the agricultural landscape.
Richard’s journey also led him to work at H-E-B for a short while, where he continued to demonstrate his strong work ethic and commitment to service. His family continues with the feed store after he decide to take another job working as a rural mail carrier. After a fulfilling career as a rural mail carrier with the post office for about 20 years, he embraced retirement and continued to make a profound impact on his community. His commitment to serving others was evident through his tireless efforts as a member of the Brooks County ISD School Board for 35 years. Richard's contributions to education were immeasurable, as he worked tirelessly to ensure every child had access to quality learning opportunities.
In addition to his work on the school board, Richard devoted himself to promoting youth agriculture activities through his involvement with 4-H. He understood the value of nurturing young minds and empowering them with knowledge and skills related to agriculture. Through livestock shows, leadership development, and fostering a love for the land, Richard's dedication to youth development was unwavering. He developed the Brooks County Buyers Committee where he asked for sponsorships in order to raise enough money to buy student projects during their livestock show sale.
Richard Garcia's memory will be treasured by all who knew him. His warm smile, kind-hearted nature, and selfless dedication will be greatly missed. He leaves behind a profound legacy of service and a community united by his vision of a better future through education.
The Holy Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2023 at Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams, Falfurrias, Texas with visitation beginning at 6:00 P.M. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 14, 2023, 11:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Church. Friends, family, and community members are invited to join in celebrating the life of Richard Garcia and honoring his enduring.
Richard Garcia's impact will continue to resonate through the lives he touched, and his memory will forever remain a guiding light. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his loved ones find solace in the beautiful memories shared with him.
