Rebecca “Becky” M. Casas passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at a hospice center in Corpus Christi, Texas the day after her 91st birthday. She was born on September 18, 1933 to Juan Maupin Maldonado and Eva Gonzalez Maldonado in Falfurrias, Texas. Mrs. R. Casas was an Educator with Brooks County ISD for over 40 years. She had her Master’s Degree and five certifications which led her to teach Science, Math, Arts, English, Spanish, History and even ESL and GED classes. She also was a sponsor, at one point, for the cheer, dance and student council groups.
Becky was a true believer in the power of education and always wanted to make sure that every child had the opportunity to learn. She continued to instill knowledge to the youth of the community even after retirement through substituting and tutoring. She would offer help to anyone needing it and was the type of person who would go without so that someone else could have. Although Becky was stern, she held her ground knowing that discipline in students was important for the fundamentals of learning.
Becky was also a lifelong member of the Woodsman of the World organization and enjoyed helping with the Sacred Heart Catholic Church fundraisers and events. She was great at sewing and a wiz on the sewing machine. She loved to travel and spend time with her family. She was also someone who would never turn down a challenge and had a tenacious and feisty personality. Her family meant the world to her and she adored each and every one of them.
Becky was reunited in Heaven with her parents; husband, George Casas; son, Oscar Omar Casas; sisters, Raquel M. Perez and Maria Elma Maldonado and brothers, Placido Maldonado II, Rene Maldonado, Roberto Maldonado, David Maldonado and Johnny Maldonado.
Becky will be missed deeply by her daughter, Susana C. (Margarito) Perez of Freeport, Texas; sister, Soila Maldonado of San Antonio, Texas, two granddaughters, Selina A. Perez-Doceti and Victoria A. (Ramon) Salinas both of Houston, Texas; two great-granddaughters, Andrea Rebecca Doceti and Scarlett Hope Salinas and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
The family will hold a Graveside Services at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Falfurrias on Friday, October 18, 2024 at 10:30 a.m.
