Raquel Gomez Barrera entered into eternal rest on Monday October 9, 2023 in Hebbronville, Texas at the age of 75. She was born on March 31, 1948 to Mr. & Mrs. Raul and Paula Gomez in Hebbronville. Raquel was also blessed with a second mother who raised her, Francisca E. Gomez of Hebbronville.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Raul and Paula Gomez; mother, Francisca E. Gomez; husband, Eloy Barrera Jr., and two brothers Raul Gomez and Rafael Gomez.
Raquel was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, but most of all she was a devoted daughter to her mother, Francisca, who she took care of for many years until her untimely passing, at the age of 99, in 2012.
After graduating from Hebbronville High School in 1967, Raquel attended beauty school in Laredo, Texas. She became a beautician and established a small beauty salon in Hebbronville, where she continued to serve selected customers for several years.
Shortly after, she met Eloy Barrera Jr., who she later married in December of 1970, established their residence in Hebbronville and created a loving family with their son, Marco Antonio Barrera and their daughter, Mariela Aimee Barrera Salinas.
In her later life, Raquel was a Home Interior Consultant, where she enjoyed bringing in new designs and decorations into the homes of her family and friends. Through this hobby, Raquel was also granted the opportunity to travel which she enjoyed very much. Raquel also worked at Central Furniture, a local furniture store, where she enjoyed having daily conversations with her customers and building long lasting friendships.
Raquel was a faithful Catholic and would attend Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church of Hebbronville, where she served at the parish as the Altar Server Sponsor for many years.
Raquel is survived by her children, Marco Antonio Barrera of Floresville, Texas and Mariela Aimee Barrera (Joe) Salinas of Hebbronville; grandsons, David Lee Salinas and Daniel Esai (Marissa) Barrera; granddaughter, Deandra Nickole (Esteban) Carreon; grandson, Gary Allen Salinas; numerous great-grandchildren; two sisters and many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Pallbearers will be David Lee Salinas, Daniel Esai Barrera, Gary Allen Salinas, Rafael Gomez, Juan Gomez, and Carlos Quintanilla.
Rosary will be prayed at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, October 13, 2023 at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams in Hebbronville with Visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Hebbronville and services will conclude with Burial at the New Hebbronville Cemetery.
