Ramiro Cantu, 87, passed peacefully from this life and joined our Heavenly Father on the morning of December 7, 2021, after a gradual decline in health. He was surrounded and supported by his loving family and caregivers during the last days of his life.
He was born on March 26, 1934 to Pedro Cantu and Guadalupe Salinas Cantu in Encino, Texas. Ramiro worked for several years in the construction and drilling industry with many companies and later was employed by the Falfurrias Nursing Home where he worked in the Maintenance Department for over seven years until his retirement. He was strong in his Catholic faith and was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Falfurrias. He had a caring heart and was always ready to help anyone in need. He enjoyed playing his guitar, singing, spending time with his family and friends, and watching his children and grandchildren grow into outstanding people whom he was very proud of.
Ramiro is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Norma Ramirez; brothers, Rodrigo Cantu, Reyes Cantu, Jose Angel Cantu, Baldomero Cantu and his twin brother, Reynaldo Cantu; and his sisters, Ester Flores, Isabel Perez and Lilia Garza.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife of 63 years, Alicia A. Cantu of Falfurrias; five daughters, Nora (Roy, Jr.) Velasquez of Calallen, Texas, Nelda (Joe) Casas of Brownsville, Texas, Naida Cantu of Falfurrias, Noemi (Tony) Gonzalez of Banquete, Texas and Noela Flores of Hebbronville, Texas; son-in-law, Raul Ramirez of Falfurrias; brother, Esiquio “Zeke” Cantu of Corpus Christi, Texas; sisters, Olivia Rubio of Corpus Christi, Lupita Patsy Martinez and Olda Maria Cantu both of Port Lavaca, Texas. He will be deeply missed by 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Stevie Ray Velasquez, Trey Gonzalez, Jacob Gonzalez, Andrew Flores, Marcos Flores and J.M. Ramirez. Honorary Pallbearer is Ryan Casas.
Rosary will be prayed at 10:15 a.m. on Monday, December 13, 2021 at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams in Falfurrias with Visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Falfurrias. Services will conclude with Burial at the Cantu Family Cemetery in Encino, Texas off Lucero Road.
