Octavio Martinez Jr.

Octavio "Tavo" Martinez, Jr. entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at a South Austin Hospital in Austin, Texas at the age of 72. He was born on February 10, 1945 to Octavio Martinez and Marcela Garcia Martinez in Falfurrias, Texas. Tavo enjoyed playing football for the Falfurrias Jerseys during his high school years and was chosen to take on the quarterback position as a freshman. He was very proud of this accomplishment and would refer to it as one of the proudest and best times if his life. After graduating from Falfurrias High School, Tavo joined the United States Air Force in March of 1966 and became a Sergeant while on active duty during the Vietnam War and continued to proudly serve his country for the next three and a half years. Tavo then became an Insurance Supervisor for a few different companies including Life and Casualty Insurance and Arredondo Insurance until his retirement. After his retirement, Tavo, moved to Austin, Texas and continued to enjoy gardening and yardwork of any kind.

He is preceded in death by his father, Octavio Martinez; mother, Marcela Gonzalez; sister, Maria del Carmen Garcia and his step-dad, Julio Gonzalez.

He is survived by his wife, Eloisa Lozano Martinez of Austin, Texas; three daughters, Ana Lisa Martinez, Marcela Martinez (Tycin) Thompson and April Angel Denise (Patrice) Martinez-Simpson all of Austin; three sisters, Dalia Burdett of Falfurrias, Martha (Rafael) Ramirez of Zapata, Texas and Natalia (Juan) Arredondo of Falfurrias; five grandchildren, Tycin Tyrone Thompson, Jr., TiAna Jana Thompson, Amya Rhys Williams, Demetreeus Perdue and Derek Thompson and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Sammy Burdett, John Burdett, Demetreeus Perdue, Derek Thompson, Tycin Thompson, Sr., Tycin Thompson, Jr., Patrice Simpson and Julio Arredondo.

Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams in Falfurrias with visitation beginning at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 8, 2017 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Falfurrias. Burial will follow at the Falfurrias Burial Park.
