Maricela Sanchez gained her wings in the comfort of her own home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at the age of 56. She was born on April 4, 1963 to Robert Sanchez and Lucia Cadena Sanchez in Falfurrias, Texas. She was a graduate of Bee County/Coastal Bend College and worked as a Licensed Vocational Nurse for almost 30 years. She took great pride in being a nurse and loved taking care of people in their most vulnerable times. She worked with the Brooks County hospital with many others saving lives as well as bringing them into this world. She also spoke fondly of her times with DBG and First Rate Home health. Over the years her jobs may have changed, but the fun she had never did. She was known to enjoy a little prank here and there, and she had an incredible ability to make light out of stressful situations and bring peace to your heart.
Aside from work, Maricela was always very involved in the lives of her family. She enjoyed attending extracurricular activities, from baseball games to fieldtrips, and everything in between, she was everyone’s biggest fan and cheerleader. She was a go-getter, and she always made magic happen in her children’s eyes. Maricela gave unconditionally, full of love, and without hesitation.
Maricela enjoyed the simple pleasures, sitting outside enjoying the weather, snacking and chatting with her family, watching her favorite soap operas with her mother, spending time with her grandchildren. She was known to spoil them on many occasions. Maricela loved fashion, jewelry, clothes and make up. She never stepped out of the house without looking her best. She was also very creative and loved making wreaths and decorating her home for the holidays. She was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Her smile could light up any room and her laugh will be greatly missed.
Maricela is reunited in Heaven with her younger brother, Robert “Bobby” Sanchez, Jr.; great-nephew, Richee Gil; paternal grandparents, Calixtro and Oliva Sanchez; maternal grandparents, Pedro and Maria Cadena and her uncle, Ramiro Cadena.
She leaves behind to reminisce on the many wonderful memories her children, Ronnie (Leanna) Pena, Reuben James “RJ” (Brynda) Pena and Candace (David Nichols) Martinez all of Corpus Christi, Texas and David Martinez of Falfurrias; parents, Robert and Lucia Sanchez of Falfurrias; brothers, Humberto (Nydia) Sanchez of Corpus Christi and Sammy (Hilda) Sanchez of Alice, Texas; sister, Ana B. Schacherl of Falfurrias; six grandchildren, Jacob Thomas Pena, Jacey Andrew Pena, Alexandra Ilene Pena, Alaina Jayde Pena, Lillian Grace Pena and Karah Jaelynn Pena and numerous extended family members whom she loved dearly.
Special appreciation is expressed to the nursing staff of Corpus Christi Hospice for the care they provided.
Memorial Prayer Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 16, 2020 at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams in Falfurrias with Visitation beginning at 5:00 p.m.
