Maria Imelda Soliz, a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, entered into eternal rest on Friday, April 28, 2023 at her residence in Falfurrias, Texas. She was born on October 8, 1943 to Guadalupe Hinojosa and Cruz Garza Hinojosa in Falfurrias, Texas and was blessed with 79 years of life. Imelda dedicated over 45 years of service as a Caseworker for the Department of Human Services for the state of Texas. She received recognition for being the longest employed caseworker with the state. During her younger years, she was a Candy Striper with the Ladies Auxiliary at Brooks County Hospital. Her love and commitment to her family was extensive and she completely treasured her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She has a passion for horses and loved horseback riding and horse racing, alongside her husband. They were quarter horse owners for many years and enjoyed attending horse races often.
Imelda was reunited in Heaven with her parents; brothers, Baldemar Hinojosa and Nelse Hinojosa and her aunt who helped raise her, Sulema B. Garza.
Surviving Imelda are her husband of 54 years, Israel Soliz of Falfurrias; son, Israel (Kristina) Soliz, Jr. of Corpus Christi, Texas; daughters, Nelda (Arturo) Hernandez and Susana M. Soliz (Jose G.) Escalante both of Falfurrias; sister, Irene H. Escalante of Falfurrias; nine grandchildren, Kristen Moralez, Andrea (Armando Ramos) Hernandez, Aislyn Escalante, Alexia Hernandez, Joseph Hernandez, Joaquin Soliz, Jose G. Escalante, Jr., Israel Soliz and Mila Escalante; two great-grandsons, Andre Ramos and Armani Ramos and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.
Pallbearers will be Lonnie Pena, Israel “Sonny” Villarreal, Aaron Escalante, Hector Escalante, Jr., Jose Manuel “Joey” Lopez, and David Zarate. Honorary Pallbearers are Joseph Hernandez, Joaquin Soliz, Jose G. Escalante, Jr., Israel Soliz, Andre Ramos and Armani Ramos.
Rosary will be held at 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams with Visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. Services will conclude with a Funeral Mass to follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Falfurrias.
