Lilia Pena entered into eternal rest on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 14, 2017at the Meridian Care Nursing Home in Hebbronville, Texas at the age of 85. She was born on May 1, 1932 to Jesus J. Pena and Olivia Cadena Pena in Hebbronville, Texas. Lilia was currently retired after dedicating 40 years of her life to Jim Hogg County. She began her career as a Typist in the Jim Hogg County Clerk’s Office in 1953. She then served as Deputy and Chief Deputy for a many years before being elected as Co and District Clerk in 1974. She continued with this position for five terms until her retirement in 1994. She was also a woman of strong faith as she was a lifelong member of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church of Hebbronville and their organization, La Sociedad de Josefa Ortiz de Domiguez.
She is preceded in death by parents; brother, Jesus F. Pena and two great-grandchildren, Humberto Gutierrez, Jr. and Genaro David Gutierrez.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories her only daughter, Fantina (Victor) Garcia of Hebbronville; two grandchildren, Clarissa (Ivan Ybanez) Sweatt of Hebbronville and Claudia S. (Gilbert) Esquivel of Bishop, Texas; six great-grandchildren, Emilio Salinas, Carina Esquivel, Eden Saenz, Victor M. Garza, III, Elia Saenz and Violet Garcia; two nephews, Jorge A. (Amalia) Pena of Hebbronville and Javier F. (Beverly) Pena of San Antonio, Texas; special cousin, Jovita Montalvo of Hebbronville and many other extended family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be Jorge A. Pena, Javier F. Pena, Gilbert Esquivel, Jorge F. Pena, Ivan Ybanez and Emilio Salinas. Honorary Pallbearers will be Guadalupe Garza, Eden Saenz, Elias Saenz, Victor M. Garcia, Jr., Victor M. Garcia, III, Jaime Arredondo and Joaquin Garza.
Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams in Hebbronville with visitation beginning at 8:30 a.m. Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Hebbronville. Services will conclude with burial at the New Hebbronville Cemetery.
Special appreciation is expressed to Lilia’s caretaker, Gloria J. Ramirez, the entire staff of the Meridian Care Center in Hebbronville and the caring staff of Nurses on Wheels.
