Jayson “Jay” Lazar Ortiz entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at a hospital in Weatherford, Texas at the age of 23 after fighting a tough, but brave and relentless, battle against Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Throughout his fight, Jay showed strength as he continuously beat anything thrown his way. Remarkably, he continued to do so with a positive outlook and without losing his charismatic nature.
Jayson’s life began on June 24, 1998, as the first of three children born to Hector Ortiz and Michelle Lee Munoz Ortiz in Kingsville, Texas. He was a 2016 Falfurrias High School honor graduate and was adorned with an astonishing amount of medals and cords when he walked the stage. Education was of great importance to him and he always had a goal he was determined to reach. Jay enjoyed making people laugh and telling jokes. He was also a self-taught drummer and Pearl Jam was his go-to band to listen to. He had a distinctive personality, a heart of Gold, and a contagious and sweet smile.
Jayson was currently living with his fiancé, Vanesa, in Weatherford and before becoming ill, worked as a Mail Carrier for the United States Postal Service. As Jay was going through treatment with harsh chemotherapy, he stayed positive and determined to move forward with his goals. In doing so, he made the brave decision to register for online classes at My Computer Career Institute and successfully received his degree in Information Technology. Jay enjoyed photography, film making and editing, music of all kinds especially on vinyl, action figures, StarWars, and the Power Rangers, the red on to be more specific.
Jayson is preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Inez Deleon Garcia and maternal grandfather, Ricardo Munoz.
