George Everitte Newman was called to rest by our Heavenly Father June 25, 2022. George was born on the Newman Ranch in La Salle County, Texas on November 12, 1930. George was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He was a veteran, civil servant, law enforcement officer, rancher, gardener, and advocate for education.
George is preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Jean “Betty” Muldrow Newman and his parents George Burleson Newman and Mary Geraldine Lotspeich Newman.
He is survived by his four caring daughters; Mary Antonette “Toni” (Eloy) Cantu, of Laredo, Elizabeth Louise (Mario) Martinez, of Laredo, Laura Kathryn (Humberto) Garcia, of Hebbronville and Andrea Edwina (Alvin) Newman-Caro of San Antonio; his grandchildren, Cilena Elissa (Javier) Cantu-Marquez, Eloy Alfonso Cantu III, Mario Eugenio Martinez Jr., Rebecca Marie Martinez, Kathryn Leonor Garcia, Theresa Elizabeth (Sergio) Garcia, Olivia Leocadia Garcia, Alvin Boyd (Olivia) Caro, Alex Everitte (Alyssa) Newman-Caro, Andreas Joseph Newman-Caro and Avalouisa Sophia Newman-Caro; and sisters Noris “Nory” (Ernest Taylor) Gibson and Nell (Clifford) Blair.
Corporal George E. Newman served during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953. He worked for the Department of Agriculture in the Laredo area from 1953 to 1954. He worked as a U.S. Border Patrol agent and Patrol Agent in Charge from 1955 to 1984. George served on the Jim Hogg County ISD School Board from 1971 to 1981. He was Executive Director of the Jim Hogg County Housing Authority from 1984 to 2007.
George and Betty happily supported their daughters and grandchildren in every ceremony of accomplishment, performance, and sporting event they were part of.
George and Betty were members of the Texas Cactus Council and enjoyed many special outings with the group. Many a family vacation included time at the ranch helping his father-in-law and brothers-in-law work cattle.
We, George’s daughters, are forever grateful for the many years that dad was present in our lives. We are blessed with many beautiful memories.
The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Laredo Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Altus Hospice for the care and comfort they provided for our father.
Our Lady of Guadalupe Church will be the setting for his services. We invite you to celebrate Dad’s life on Thursday, June 30, 2022 beginning with visitation at 9:00 am, rosary at 10:00 am, mass at 11:00 am, followed by internment at the Greenhill Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Eloy A. Alfonso Cantu, Mario E. Martinez, Humberto Garcia, Alvin Caro, Eloy A. Cantu III, Mario E. Martinez Jr., Andreas Joseph Newman-Caro, and Javier Marquez. Honorary pallbearers are Joseph Burch Muldrow, Alvin Boyd Caro, Alex Everitte Newman-Caro, and Sergio Garcia.
