Eugene “Gene” Rodriguez, Jr. passed away on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 in Corpus Christi, Texas at the age of 71. He was born on November 21, 1946 to Eugenio and Concepcion Rodriguez, Sr. in Corpus Christi, Texas. Gene proudly served as a Sergeant in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He later became a United States Border Patrol Agent with the United States Department of Homeland Security Customs and Border Protection and worked many years as an agent until his retirement. Gene was an avid baseball player. He also enjoyed being outdoors, fishing and performing carpentry work.
Gene is preceded in death by his father, Eugenio Rodriguez, Sr. and brother, Raymond Frank Rodriguez.
He leaves behind to reminisce on all his memories his wife of over 22 years, Corina H. Rodriguez of Falfurrias; two sons, Eugenio (Marlo Adrian) Rodriguez, III of Kingsville, Texas and Eugenio Rodriguez, IV of Falfurrias; two daughters, Ida Lina (Billy Norris) Rodriguez of Friendswood, Texas and Vanessa N. Rodriguez of Falfurrias; his mother, Concepcion C. Mendez of Corpus Christi; brothers, Ronald Rodriguez of Lake Jackson, Texas, Robert Steve (Amanda) Cortez of Orange Grove, Texas, Darren Rodriguez and Dwayne Rodriguez both of Corpus Christi; sisters, Mary Ester (Eddie) Cantu of Robstown, Texas, Mary Helen Vela of Corpus Christi and Rosalind (David) Buitron of Robstown; five grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Vilma Gutierrez and Rosalinda Gutierrez both of Falfurrias; brother-in-law, Roberto Gutierrez of Falfurrias and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members.
Prayer Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, November 12, 2018 at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams in Falfurrias with Visitation to begin at 4:00 p.m. Military Honors Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at the Coastal Bend State Veteran’s Cemetery in Corpus Christi, Texas.
