Diana B. (Redner) Lopez of Falfurrias, Texas passed away peacefully on February 22, 2024 at the age of 86. Diana was the school nurse at Falfurrias Junior High School for many years, and was beloved by students for her kindness and humor.
Diana was born in San Diego, Texas to Daniel F. Redner and Bertha Garza Redner, and was the oldest of five siblings. She graduated from Benavides High School in 1954 and went on to study nursing at James Daugherty, Jr. School of Nursing at Spohn Hospital in Corpus Christi. She obtained licensure as a registered nurse (RN) and had a decades- long career across diverse fields of nursing, including emergency rooms, mental health hospitals, public health, and school nursing. She taught her children (and junior high kids) much about health, anatomy, and biology, eliciting more than a few giggles over the years.
She married Juan P. Lopez, Jr. of Falfurrias, Texas in 1959 and they marked their 64th wedding anniversary last October. Diana was a devoted mother to 6 children, grandmother to 9 and great-grandmother to 5, and instilled strong family values of responsibility, education, hard work and independence. She spent countless hours driving to tennis tournaments, dentist appointments, band practices, and UIL meets to be there for her kids and oldest grandchild. Her love was demonstrated daily.
She and her husband enjoyed traveling the Southwest U.S., attending gun shows, driving to see the Texas wildflowers at the ranch, and visiting the Piedras Pintas ranch in Duval County where she attended primary school. The family also took camping trips to Garner State Park and Padre Island. She loved turquoise, collecting arrowheads, and Native American art.
Diana was predeceased by her father Dan Redner, mother Bertha Garza Redner, sister Janice Redner, stepmother Petra Redner, brothers Amador (Doy), Dan (Danny), and William (Billy) Redner .
She is survived by her loving husband Juan Lopez of Falfurrias, children Miranda Lopez of Phoenix, AZ, Susan Lopez of Pflugerville, TX, Judy (John) Ramirez of McAllen, TX, John (Lupe) Lopez of San Antonio, TX, Elizabeth (John) Pagiotas of Dallas, TX, Cathy Lopez of San Antonio, TX, grandchildren Tara Hernandez of McAllen, TX, Brittany Lopez of San Antonio, TX, Kaitlin (Silas) Ott of San Marcos TX, Daniel (Nicole) Hernandez of Austin, TX, Krysten (Eric) Bieberbach of McAllen, TX, Orion Pagiotas of New Braunfels, TX, Aiden Pagiotas of Dallas, TX, and great-grandchildren Jacob, Layla, Gavin, Jack, and Kaspian.
Visitation will be held Monday, February 26, 2024 beginning at 5:00 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel Howard-Williams in Falfurrias followed by a Celebration of Life at 6:00 p.m. and will be available live-stream at https://www.facebook.com/FDAHowardWilliams
