Robert Joseph Plantz Sr., 82, of Belleville, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2022. He was born September 21, 1940 in Kansas City, Missouri. He married Janet Marie Curry. Robert was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. He worked as a foreman for Granite City Steel for many years, retiring in 2003.
Survivors include his sons, Robert J. Plantz Jr. and William “Bill” (Cynthia) Plantz; grandchildren, Robert J. Plantz III, Joseph C. Plantz, William R. Plantz, Lynette Plantz, Elizabeth Plantz and Gerald Savant; great-grandchildren, Emeri and Elliot Plantz; brother, Frank (Sharon) LaRoux; significant other, Mary Gompers. Preceded in death by his wife, Janet Plantz; son, Gary Plantz; grandson, Kyle Savant; brothers, Arthur and Richard Plantz and sister, Pat Rizzoli.
Funeral service will be held Monday, December 19, 2022 at 1:00pm in Lake View Funeral Home, 5000 N. Illinois St., Fairview Heights, IL 62208 with visitation from 11:00am until time of service. Interment to follow in Lake View Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions can be made to the family.
